Wow, that’s a lot of sawing involved. The main thing I noticed is that you’re not out of breath. When I have done sawing in the past, I would end up using both hands on the saw and pulling the saw really fast over a short length of the saw blade and speeding up toward the end, exhausted by the time I finished. It was unpleasant. I’m sure the saw was dull.
In more recent times, I would probably use a router to make those cuts. It’s loud and creates a mess of wood chips. Or, if I used dust collection, there’d be even more noise. (But the precision cut is pretty nice.)
I also wonder if it gets boring doing that much sawing. it does seem nice not to have to spend all that time setting up a jig or a fence. And there are virtually no safety issues, so I wouldn’t need glasses, and there’s no guard that makes it hard to see the cut, etc. It might be a nice change from power tools. It might even be possible to listen to music, which you can’t do in a power tool shop.
I’m surprised at how precise a cut you can make. I was completely unfamiliar with the marking knife.
This was eye opening. I was recently dreaming about plunking down $900 for the new SawStop compact table saw, and I’d still be scared of it. If I could do everything I need to do without a table saw, even if it took longer, I’d be happy.
